Kathryn Altus
Kathryn Altus uses the grandeur of the Northwest topography as a point of departure to create abstract landscapes with a palpable sense of near-infinite space. These ethereal works are minimalist in aesthetic and transcend specific locales. Altus’ paintings explore the transition between land, air and water, as well as the intersection of the natural environment and the marks of human presence within it.
Originally from Olympia, Washington, the Seattle-based artist attended Cornish College of the Arts, and has shown at Harris Harvey Gallery (formerly the Lisa Harris Gallery) since 1993. Altus has also been featured at the Whatcom Museum of History and Art, the Washington Capitol Museum, and in New American Talent, through Texas Fine Arts Association.
Her work may be found in corporate and private collections in the Pacific Northwest, including Washington State Arts Commission, Swedish Medical Center, Temple B’nai Torah, Active Voice, the U.S Navy, and the University of Washington Medical Center. The U.S Art in Embassies program has placed her work in NAMIBIA and France.
