Emily Wood

Tacoma native Emily Wood is an established painter known for her deft handling of color, from subtle value shifts to intense hues, creating landscapes that boldly dramatize the region's varied geography.

Wood’s colorist interpretations focus on Northwest regions; scenes of mountain lakes, tree-lined ridges, winding rivers, coastal views, and cultivated fields from Oregon to Montana to Eastern and Western Washington. She depicts them with varied brush technique, and dynamic compositions. Wood’s oil paintings are characterized by a saturated palette, simplified shapes and deepening shadows.

Since 1997, Wood, a University of Washington B.A. graduate, has been exhibiting regularly at Lisa Harris Gallery, now Harris Harvey Gallery. She also has been featured in galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Chapel Hill, North Carolina and most recently in a solo exhibition at The Clymer Museum in Ellensburg, Washington (2012). Her work can be found in the collections of Seattle University’s Sullivan Law Center, Merrill Lynch, Seattle Cancer Alliance, UW Medical Center, and Tacoma Art Museum as well as in private collections on the East and West Coasts. The artist has been included in important regional survey shows at The Tacoma Art Museum (1995) and the Whatcom Museum of History and Art (1999).
