Hart James - Poems of the Earth

October 1 - 31, 2026
Artist’s Reception: First Thursday, October 1, 6-8 PM

In Poems of the Earth, Pacific Northwest artist Hart James seeks to connect the natural world with the viewer. James shares that William Wordsworth defined poetry as ‘the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings; it takes its origin from emotion...’  Like poetry, the paintings become a vehicle for the soul and heart to rest in our emotion; a poetic reminder of our place in the natural world. Hart James works as an emotional expressionist, painting the beauty and power of nature through the emotion it elicits. With a deep knowledge of the Northwest Mystics, James prefers a raw, expressive use of paint and color to carry this tradition forward to the present. Her work speaks of the energy of nature—every painting is an attempt to reunite with an existence symbiotic with the natural world.
