Wendy Thon

Influenced by an intense personal vision multi media artist Wendy Thon creates a feeling of intimacy in her intaglio prints, some of them miniatures. The artist has also established a reputation for her imaginative narrative paintings, sometimes realized as sculptural reliefs, which are inspired by her travels in India, Africa, and the Mediterranean. The artist portrays human and animal figures in architectural scenes or landscapes that strongly exude the ambience and culture of these locales. Whether depicting the vast Serengeti plains or the Ganges River, Thon strikes a universal human chord that transcends borders.

Raised in Kalispell, Montana, Thon received a B.F.A from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor after studying abroad at Saint Lucas Art Academy in Ghent (Belgium) and Banff School of Fine Art (Canada). From 1975 to 1979 she studied printmaking at the Ruth Leaf Workshop in New York.

Thon’s etchings have been exhibited internationally, in such countries as New Zealand, Turkey, Spain, France, Belgium, Mexico and Japan. In the U.S. her paintings and prints have been included in numerous invitational or survey exhibitions in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Wisconsin, and California.

The artist’s etchings are included in Portland Art Museum, Missoula Art Museum and the University of Washington Medical Center, among others. Over the years, Thon has been sought out to lead printmaking workshops in British Columbia, Washington D.C., and Montana, and her home state of Washington.
